Life for sixteen year old Jadon Charles, a form four student of the Presentation Brothers College is about to change.
He was one of the recipients of a free hearing device from the Starkey Foundation.
The teenager is able to hear clearly for the first time since birth.
Jadons’ speech was also affected as a result of the hearing loss.
Having the hearing device will make life a lot easier for him he says.
Communication in the classroom has been a challenge.
He encourages young people like himself to come in and be checked as this will enable them to use less sign language.
Meanwhile, Divine is a grade six student preparing for CPEA in 2020.
She experienced complete hearing loss at a young age and uses signs to communicate.
She expressed gratitude for her new hearing aid.
She signed she is happy, because she will now hear her teacher and friends.
Her great grandmother says Divine has helped her to better understand her challenge.
She encouraged parents to pay close attention to their children.
Friday’s hearing fair was done in collaboration with the ministries of health and education.
