Thursday March 12th was observed as World Kidney Day.
It was observed under the theme “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere – from Prevention to Detection and Equitable Access to Care”.
World Kidney Day focused this year on “preventive interventions” to avoid the onset and progression of kidney diseases.
Ann Hopkin member of the board of directors of the Grenada Patient Kidney Foundation says,dialysis is a very expensive undertaking that the regular patient sometimes cannot afford.
Presently there are about twenty patients currently under their care.
Recently government announced that they were going to decrease the fees to patients. Hopkin explains
Hopkin says what they want is for people to take care of their health. This year, presentations are being made to various groups with emphasis on high blood sugar and its effects on the organ.
