The government’s cost of living assistance programme is coming under fresh scrutiny, more than a week after the first VAT-free shopping weekend. While the initiative attracted large crowds and increased activity at businesses, concerns were raised about the level of savings being passed on to consumers. Now, the inland revenue division says some complaints about pricing during the vat-free days are under investigation.
