To date, 4,650 people have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Grenada.
That’s according to health officials here on Wednesday.
Anyone in Grenada can now go get their covid-19 vaccine.
According to Health Minister Nickolas Steele, vaccination continues as another batch of Seventeen thousand doses arrived here on Tuesday.
Minister Steele says it was a joint request on the part of regional countries to India for assistance. Four countries received their first shipment last week. Grenada’s shipment was not among the lot.
However, consideration was given to countries with more active covid 19 cases.
The cost of Friday’s shipment the minister said were shared, with an agreement that the allocations from the other islands will be shared and Grenada in return will return the favor when our shipment arrives.
In St. David, the vaccination process will take place at the St. David health Center, while suitable locations for the parishes of St. John and St. Mark are being considered.
Nurses will be sent out into communities where people are unable to access vaccination sites.
Presently only one type\brand of vaccine is available and is being administered in Grenada, the AstraZeneca vaccine.
