Two families lost their homes to fire on Saturday.

Police say Andrew Lord, a mechanic of Morne Toute and his family left their three bedroom house around 6pm to visit his mother in-law and later received a call informing him of the fire.

According to the report, Lord is unaware of what could have started the fire as there was nothing out of the ordinary before he left.

Police say the cause of the fire, and estimated value of loss remain unknown as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, the home of a 39 year old St. John’s resident was also completely destroyed by fire on Saturday.

According to reports the Gouyave Fire Department was alerted of the fire shortly after 9pm .

Fire fighters encountered difficulty reaching the four-bedroom home due to the steep terrain at which the house was located.

A report from the Community Relations Department of the RGPF estimated the loss at $150,000.
