The Government is urging the Grenada Union of Teachers to follow proper procedure when desirous of meeting with their membership during regular working hours.
A press release issued earlier today states that instead of seeking the requisite permission to meet with members during work hours, the GUT only notified the Ministry of Education of its intention, through correspondence addressed to the Chief Education Officer.
The release issued following a meeting called by the Grenada Union of Teachers on Wednesday urges the union to submit a request to the employer, seeking permission for teachers to be granted leave during the regular work day.
Government said that permission for such meetings is usually granted from 3:00 p.m. so that the work day is not significantly disrupted while at the same time, allowing employees, their employer and bargaining agent to maintain good labour relations.
The release further states that Government notes with concern that teachers were off the job from 12-noon Wednesday to attend the meeting set for 1:00 p.m.
