Several changes announced to carnival events this year, to ensure ease of execution.

Reports from Chief Executive Officer of the Spicemas Corporation (SMC) Kelvin Jacob indicate that there will be some structural changes to some of the major shows for Spicemas.

The Corporation met with the media on Thursday, ahead of Saturday’s launch.

According to CEO, changes can be expected in both the registration and competition of Monday Night mas.

This year there will be registration in two categories, for small and large bands. A small band will be 500 or less masqueraders, with the large bands over 500 masqueraders.

Jacob says the categories should give fair play to the competition.

SMC has also heeded the call of masqueraders and will be extending the route for Parade of the bands and has also called for early start time. Call time for bands this year is 11am, for a prompt 12 noon start.

There is also a strong possibility that a Junior Calypso semi-finals will be staged this year.

Last year, due to structural damage to the national stadium by a weather system, changes were made to accommodate Junior and Senior Panorama on the same day.

Jacobs says this year, both competitions will again be held on the same day.

Spicemas Corporation has also announced Carnival city will be launched on the 14th of June and will be held every Friday instead of on a Thursdays as in years gone by.

J’Ouvert activity is also expected to be more structured, to ensure that no one mas band dominates the J’Ouvert parade.

The calendar of events for Spicemas 2019 is also expected to be published in coming days ahead.
