Pure Grenada, the Spice of the Caribbean was delighted to welcome an increased number of yachts in the World ARC Atlantic Rally for Cruisers Round the World race 2018-2019. 17 boats were welcomed this year, an increase over the 14 welcomed last year. World ARC is a round-the-world adventure taking place over 15 months and covering 26,000 nautical miles. The event features a mix of cruising and exploring the world.

The 52 participants came from all over the world including Germany, Austria, France, the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand. The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) worked closely with the Camper & Nicholson Port Louis Marina, Westerhall Estate Ltd., Digicel, the Marine and Yachting Association of Grenada (MAYAG) and other private & public sector partners to provide a memorable experience for visiting families & crew members ending their 15-month journey.

On Saturday March 23, the Marine and Yachting Association of Grenada (MAYAG) hosted a Welcome to Grenada Cocktail at the Grenada Yacht Club then on Tuesday March 26 an Awards Dinner was celebrated at the Port Louis Marina. The dinner featured great local cuisine and entertainment by Solid the Band. During their time in Grenada, the sailors and their families enjoyed a diverse island tour visiting waterfalls, the picturesque city of St. George and the Spice market, historical forts and the Douglaston Estate. The participants enjoyed Grenada’s offerings and expressed how impressed they were by the destination’s beauty, safety and the friendliness of the people.

CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) Patricia Maher encouraged the World Arc participants to visit Grenada again especially following the strong growth recorded in the yachting sector. She said, “ Our yacht visitor arrivals for 2018 of 24,281 were up 11% over 2017 while our yacht calls of 5,886 grew by 8%. We look forward to the Camper and Nicholson Port Louis Marina expanding its operations by adding 90 docks to its current 160 docks by August and the Grenada Yacht Club upgrading its services with an additional 18 berths by April this year. “

Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique will again collaborate with World Arc for the 2019/2010 race. The country looks forward to welcoming even more boats and participants to every sailor’s southern Caribbean dream.
