Health Minister Nicholas Steele assured the public that the oxygen plant at the Grenada General Hospital is in operation.

The minister was one of the facilitators at Tuesdays post cabinet briefing held at the ministerial complex.

The oxygen plant at the general Hospital has been out of operation for almost two years.

A delayed shipment of the gas from Trinidad prompted the move by the US Naval ship – Comfort last September to donate sixteen tanks of oxygen to the General hospital and to conduct repairs to the plant.

The minister admits that at the moment oxygen is being sourced locally but the plant itself is up and running.

Consideration is being given to a second oxygen plant with the capability of managing the full complement of operations at the hospital.
