Twenty-one Calypsonians took to the stage, by the end of the night the judges chose nine finalists to compete in the final of the 2023 Independence Calypso Competition.

Out of the six females, that were chosen from a pool of forty-four entries, only two will move on the final.

This is the first time the simi-Final round of the competition was held on live on stage.

Adreian Mark Coordinator of the competition gave his thoughts on the event, saying it was quite successful and that he is satisfied with the turnout and participation this year.

Mark pointed out some of the challenges he observed leading up to the preparation of the event as well as his dissatisfaction in the turn out.

The finalists are, Charlton Charles ‘Prince Charlton’, Heidi Charles, Teddy Christopher aka Top Cat, Nevion Cox, Edison ‘Teacher Eddy’ Francis, Jason ‘Big J’ Joseph, Damion ‘Pappy Boi’ LaPompe, Michael Prince, Laura ‘Laura Lisa’ Richardson, with Arthur Smokey Stephen, as the standby.

Sean Niles ‘Sour Serpent is the defending Monarch.

The National Independence Calypso Competition Calypso final will be held at the Sauteurs bus terminal in St. Patrick from 8:00 pm.
