Government is targeting the elimination of mosquitoes around Grenada, with a focus on the reduction of prominent breeding areas.

Senator Winston Garraway, addressing the second session of the 10th Parliament in a sitting of the upper house last Thursday, says this comes on the heels of the discovery of a new strain of dengue circulating in the region.

He says the ministry of health is increasing its intervention aimed at ensuring the mosquito index remains at the recommended World Health Organization standards.

He says the increased presence of Vector Control Officers will be seen around and persons who harbor create environments that breed mosquitoes will be dealt with.

Minister Garraway urged tyre dealers to protect the environment by securing tyres properly and now allowing them to become breeding spots.
