Tributes are pouring in for Kirani James and his family, on the passing of his mother, Pamela Annie James.
Ms. James passed away on Wednesday night, following a lengthy battle with a terminal disease.
Reports are that she was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday, where she subsequently died.
Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell has issued a statement on her passing.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, I extend deepest sympathy to the
James family on the passing of Ms. Pamela James, a humble and wonderful person who
was the mother of our Olympic champion, Kirani James.
It is with great sadness that we learnt of her sudden passing and the nation mourns with
the entire family, particularly with Kirani, who, through the years, has been an immense
source of pride and joy for our people.
Just as we stood by his side in celebration of joyous moments, we stand with Kirani in his
period of loss, and we offer our prayers and support to him and the rest of the family.
In her relatively short life, Aunty Pam as she was affectionately called, contributed
significantly to the community of Gouyave, and to the wider nation. She gave us Kirani
who we treasure dearly as our Olympic gold medalist and for that, she will always be
remembered and cherished.
The warmth and heart of this nation embraces the entire family in this moment of sadness
and we pray that you find comfort in the many precious memories you hold dearly. May
her soul rest in eternal peace.” Dr. Mitchell wrote.
The National Democratic Congress has also sent a message of condolence.
“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the People of Grenada are deeply saddened by the
passing of Sister Annie James, mother of our Olympian and World Champion Athlete Kirani
James. A mother is irreplaceable since nothing can compare with a mother’s love. We must take
comfort in knowing that she has transcended to a better place in the arms of our Lord.
Sister Annie has played a foundational role in the history of Grenada by giving the country her
son Kirani. Her contribution to his personal and professional success is well known and is a
manifestation of the tremendous qualities she possessed. Her passing is a tremendous loss to
her family, the people of Gouyave and the entire country.
The NDC extends its deepest condolences to Kirani and the family and friends of Sister Annie
James. She will be truly missed and we stand by your side in this moment of bereavement.”
Many other fans and well wishers have taken to social media to express condolences to Grenada’s Olympic Gold medalist on the passing of his mother.
