No set date for the reopening up of the St. George’s market, however Infrastructural work continues.

Work which started over one month ago have already covered complete tiling of building two, tiling in building one is almost complete.

Painting of both buildings is on schedule, installation of sinks on the outside of building one, sanding of louvers and replacement of Grills have already taken place.

Upgrades of the St. George’s market is costing government in excess of 4.6 million dollars.

Speaking to permanent Secretary in the ministry of infrastructure Merina Jessamy on Monday she says she is not in a position to give an opening date, however they are satisfied with the progress made thus far.

The date for the sanitization of the market has been extended.

An inspection of the facility was conducted last Friday by ministry of health officials which also included Permanent secretary in the ministry of Infrastructure Merina Jessamy.

The final inspection is planned for August 28th.

The ministry of infrastructure development and implementation seeks to enhance the market environment and support compliance with the covid-19 protocol.
