A family in La Borie, St. George, is mourning the tragic loss of 24-year-old Jamal Benjamin, who passed away over the weekend in a freak accident.
According to family members, Jamal left home around 6 a.m. to pick breadfruit as part of his daily trade. While on the tree, the metal rod he was using reportedly came into contact with a nearby power line, resulting in his electrocution and causing him to fall from the tree. He was rushed to the General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Jamal, who lived with his father in La Borie, was described by residents as a hardworking and polite young man.
The grieving family, still coming to terms with their loss, declined an interview, stating that this is an extremely difficult time for them.
