International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Significant activities is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

During her official address to mark International Women’s Day 2021, Minister for Social Development Delma Thomas lauded women for once again proving their resilience having found themselves in the center of the covid19 pandemic – With that in mind, Minister Thomas said the theme for this year is very fitting.

The Social Development Minister says it’s time for women to be recognized for the important role they play within the homes and in society.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell says strong female leadership continues to be the driving force behind several facets of society throughout the years. This as he reflected on the contributions of women in power.

In commemoration of the day, GBN’s Doctor on Call on Tuesday will take the format of a special feature on women’s health.

Purple, green and white are the colors of International Women’s Day. Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolizes hope. White represents purity.
