The islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique may soon be certified tsunami ready.
A team of experts from the Caribbean tsunami warning program, along with National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) paid a tsunami ready verification visit to the sister isles earlier this week.
The islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique have broken the Caribbean record in the implementation of tsunami ready programs, according to Christa Von Hilderbrant-Andrade, Manager of the Caribbean Tsunami Warning Program.
She was among a team of professionals visiting the sister isles.
The Tsunami ready verification visit to Carriacou was to ensure communities met their ten basic guidelines.
The certification team is advising the inclusion of all mediums in raising awareness.
Minister for Carriacou and Petit Martinique Affairs Kindra Mathurine Stuart has cited the initiative as relevant, given the vulnerability of the Sister Isles to a Tsunamis’ impact.
The Minister added that she is satisfied where they are now in terms of preparedness.
The certification team inspected all systems on the islands to ensure that in the likelihood of an event, islanders are prepared.
