The government of Grenada is working together with officers of the royal Grenada police force to extend the fire department services throughout the country.
Minister for infrastructure development Norland Cox during Tuesday’s post cabinet briefing announced plans to proceed with the project in St. David.
Residents of St David will soon have their community-based fire department in the parish, as the government of Grenada started the preliminary stage in constructing a fire station the first for the parish. The fire station will be established behind the St David’s police station in a building that will be retrofitted for that purpose.
Minister for Infrastructure Development Norland Cox says the station is overdue, as residents in the area will often have to wait for a fire truck in St Andrew and St George to respond to fires.
On the other hand, Minister Cox explains that plans are well on the way in relocating the main fire department of the Royal Grenada Police Force in St George from the Carenage to Grand Anse.
Minister Cox said the goal is to equip every parish to be able to respond in quick time to fires within the parish.
