“A senior statesman of the new national party.”

That’s how Prime Minister and political leader of the New National Party, Dr Keith Mitchell has described Alphonsus Antoine, who was found dead close to his home on Thursday.

The Prime Minister was at the time reflecting on his relationship with the Antoine family and more specifically the deceased.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, a close friend of the deceased, Alphonsus Antoine, expressed sympathy on the passing of the former public servant and staunch party supporter.

On Thursday, the body of the 79 year old was discovered close to his dwelling home at Lance Aux Epines.

Dr Mitchell says the relationship begun in 1979 with the fall of the Eric Gairy led regime.

He says the relationship with Alphonsus Antoine, further blossomed when the New National party was defeated in the 1990 elections; the now deceased man had helped to rebuild the party under difficult circumstances.

Prime Minister Mitchell says as a result, Antoine was seen and will be remembered as a senior statesman of the party.

Although he held no official position within the party, the Prime Minister said offered advice and supported the party on varying issues.

Mr Antoine was first reported missing by family on Tuesday.

During the search for him, family members told GBN Mr. Antoine had suffered from early onset of Dementia.
