A total of 25 Grenadians were chosen to participate in the standards of training, certification and watch keeping programme in neighbouring Trinidad.

14 out of the 25 seafarers engaging in the training in neighboring Trinidad are from the sister isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Rholda Quamina, highlighted on government’s mandate to provide necessary training, which will aid in the development of young people throughout the tri island state.

The PS says the 14 young men were already part of the sea life of Carriacou and Petite Martinique would particiapate in the 10 day training course.

She added that the initiative was organized by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and the Arts, with support from the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs.

Meanwhile, Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Kindra Maturine-Stewart, noted that with reports from the selection committee of over 100 applications, a request was further made in cabinet for another batch from Carriacou and Petite Martinique to benefit from STCW before year end.
