Protect The Sour Sop Trade

The Grenada Government is being told that it needs to do more to protect what could be now termed as Grenada's "Green Gold", the Sour Sop.

Farmers Representative in the Senate, Dunstan Campbell, is calling for license and export regulations to guide the export of soursop to the United States.

Addressing the Senate on the 2019 Budget debate Campbell said that Grenada as the lone regional country with the certification to export soursop is not doing enough to get full benefits from this venture.

Campbell said that the necessary requirements for exporting agriculture produce needs to be established.

The farmers’ representative says that the agriculture sector has great financial benefits for farmers and the country but that Government needs to make the investments.

Campbell said that the biggest threat to the agriculture sector is praedial larceny.
